Who We Are
Independent Music United (IMU) is a grassroots, nonprofit corporation based in Cleveland, Ohio that is focused on creating a sustainable independent music industry for independent musicians, fans of independent music, and the independent music community as a whole.
THE COMPANY MISSION
The goals of IMU are to educate independent artists about the music industry, assist independent artists in building sustainable careers, and to advocate for independent artists both by introducing independent artists to important social issues that affect the independent music community and by educating the general public about independent music by promoting the work of independent musicians and spreading awareness about the independent music community.
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Educational Services for Independent Musicians
The educational services for independent musicians will focus on educating them on the music industry as a business and teaching them how to run their careers professionally, therefore creating a self-sustaining industry. Specific services will include monthly seminars, industry specific business templates, monthly educational reports, bi-weekly advice Internet radio program, and comprehensive resources vital to a successful career in music.
Career Assistance for Independent Musicians
Career assistance will be provided to independent musicians through the creation of educational materials but also through specific programs offered by IMU. These specific career assistance programs will include: financing and promotion of independent music through collaborative releases, tour and album grants to select independent musicians, an industry mentorship program, and ongoing consultation services, a national mentoring program, and free legal clinics to independent musicians.
Advocacy and Promotion Services for Independent Musicians
IMU will also assist independent musicians through advocacy for issues important to independent musicians. Specifically IMU will promote community building throughout all genres of independent music, create cooperation with outside organizations that can utilize the strengths and gifts of independent musicians, and introduce independent musicians to important social and policy issues such as health and safety concerns, which pertain to independent musicians.
